China’s He Xuemei on floor at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. I really really enjoyed the dance in this routine, and also it was cool to see the variety of tumbling! Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that the ladies aren’t allowed to do the roll-out skills anymore (but I find it a bit sexist that men are allowed to still) but it is pretty cool to see it performed! I actually gasped because I thought she was gonna land on her head! I had just read about the Sang Lan thing….can you blame me? Haha :) Hope you all enjoy!
Anna Pavlova, one of my favorite gymnasts, performed a near perfect and totally beautiful floor routine during the All Around competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. As the BBC announcer described it, “captivating!” It really is. I just wish she had been able to perform this well during floor finals! So beautiful, I love love love this routine!
Lizzy LeDuc on floor at the 2011 WOGA Classic! I like the smiles and good energy!
I’ve been meaning to post this for a few days now but time has kind of gotten away from me lately! Dallas got hit with some nasty weather today and last week and needless to say, it was a little crazy! Anyways, here’s one of my Sooners, Jake Dalton, at the Winter Cup last weekend. If you haven’t seen yet, Jake took the title! Last year’s champ Chris Brooks is recovering from ankle surgery, and Jon Horton apparently only competed rings, I think he’s recovering from a hand/finger injury?
While I was at OU, I got the opportunity to see Jake train fairly regularly, so I can’t say I’m ENTIRELY surprised by his result at Winter Cup, but he’s definitely made a few upgrades since the last time I saw him, and he looked great at the meet! This is a HUGE floor routine that the USA can definitely use on the national team! Jake starts off with a GIANT arabian double layout, I mean seriously, this move is crazy. Next pass, he wows us with a laid out one and a half twisting Thomas salto that practically floats through the air. Aside from the ridiculous tumbling, my favorite thing about this routine is that he fights for every landing. Every tenth counts!
Jake went to the 2009 Worlds on the USA Team but didn’t get into any EFs. He’s very strong all around, but probably best on floor and vault, and has insane amounts of talent, so I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest to see him on the 2012 Olympic team.
A great floor routine from LSU’s Maliah Mathis at the Metroplex Challenge last weekend. This routine earned Maliah a 9.875, which tied her for first with Alabama’s Diandra Milliner, and the score was a season high for both girls. Maliah showcased a beautiful double layout, a front pike through to double back tuck, and a nice double pike to finish. Maliah did an interview with Gymnastike after the meet, in which she predicted she’d get a 10.0 before the end of the season! So let’s see if her prediction comes true, Good Luck Maliah!
Ksenia Semenova’s FX from the recent Russian Cup. Love her! This was, as one of the commenters said, pretty much the floor routine of her life! The tumbling and dance were both great, especially her very pretty double layout! I also love this music, does anyone know what the name of the first song is? Leave a comment if you do!!
Here’s one of the OU routines I liked from the meet Sunday - Kayla Nowak on floor. Beautifully controlled double pike, one and a half to front full, also very pretty, and finished up with a front one and a half. I think Kayla has very pretty form in her tumbling, and while some people may not like the choreography (I’m looking at you Spanny!), I think it’s great for Kayla, it suits her well!
I also really liked Megan Ferguson’s energetic routine, she starts off with a huge triple, which is great! You don’t see too many of those from the girls!

Baby Anna Pavlova (RUS) showed bucketloads of potential and oozed elegance, although she was just 12 years old! Here is an old floor exercise from 2002. Based on the clean tumbles she showed plus her great presentation, I’m not surprised she made the 2004 Olympic team! I love me some Anna Pavlova, and I really hope she continues to compete! She may be able to make the 2012 Olympic team, just maybe! Alternatively, she can switch allegiances and qualify for another country’s team :P
Svetlana Khorkina’s 2004 Floor Routine has to be my favorite routine of the 2004 Olympics! This diva truly had a talent for the sport and for drawing people into her routines, I always always always loved watching any of her routines!
Vanessa Ferrari (ITA) only placed 6th in the Floor Event Final, but she must have had one of the highest execution scores based on her stuck landings. Yes, there were multiple! I also very much like her music. A great routine from Vanessa!
