USA Men’s Podium Training Video! No commentary this time, sorry. I’ve got an early wake up call for my horribly timed vacation - a cruise to Mexico! Should be awesome, I just wish I was going to get to see some gymnastics. Oh well…my fave Chelsea Davis is out injured now….I still hope both the USA men and women can pull it together and medal! GO USA! :)

Mary Lee Tracy sent Gymnastike an update of the Cincinnati Gymnastics gals who went to the Worlds Selection camp, and talked a little about what the upcoming camp will be like. Interesting!

Via Stick It Media — Jeez, based on his training videos he’s posted, Paul Hamm is EASILY going to be back to full speed for the next competition year! Barring any injuries, I’ve got to think he’ll be on the team for London 2012 - they’d be stupid not to take an athlete of his caliber. Not only can he contribute some potentially very high scores on just about every event, he also brings the experience of having been to the Olympics before, and he’s the type of gymnast to stay calm and collected under pressure, which is just what the USA needs. Looking good Paul!

2011 American Cup = World Cup!

Via Rick at GymnasticsCoaching.com and Brigid at the Couch Gymnast….

American Cup is now going to be a World Cup event! This is fantastic news. Not only will it bring more credibility to the event, which has been criticized for it’s American domination in the past, but it will also, as Brigid pointed out, bring us some exciting gymnastics in that time in between NCAA ending and elite starting up again.

The FIG has sanctioned USAG and the Ukraine Gymnastics Federation because they each let an athlete return to competition without clearing it through them. The gymnasts in question are Alicia Sacramone (USA) and Natalia Godunko (UKR), who is a rhythmic gymnast. Despite Alicia announcing her return to the gym a loooong time ago, apparently nobody at USAG bothered to inform the bigwigs at the FIG, which violates the World Anti-Doping Agency and FIG anti-doping rules.

Apparently Sacramone and Godunko will both be allowed to compete at Worlds, since the FIG didn’t want to punish the athletes for the mistake their federations made, the article said. Ouch, FIG layin it down on USAG!

Shawn Johnson’s new training video she posted on her website gives us a long awaited glimpse of the Olympian finally back in the gym training after a hefty break. She doesn’t do TOO much, but it’s enough to see that she’s still got the goods to work back to, or at least close to, her previous level. There’s some bars goodies, a little bit of tumbling, and maybe a glimpse of her new skill? She works a BHS-BHS-Layout full on a line on the floor, so it seems like that’s going to go on the beam, and it could be that new skill she tweeted about. But who knows, she could be pulling the wool over our eyes :P

Part 6 of Who I’d Put On The Worlds Team: Chelsea Davis!

I think the selection camp is today, maybe, so I figured I’d better post the last one quick before USAG beats me to the punch! I was really torn between three gymnasts for this last spot: Chelsea, Mackenzie Caquatto, and Kytra Hunter. I even had a huge gymnastics nerd moment in which I took the 3 girls’ D and E scores from VISA’s and did a side by side comparison, haha! All that really convinced me of was that I didn’t want to take Macko. Kytra and Chelsea were very evenly matched, and in the end I decided I’d take Chelsea because we already have a lot of power gymnasts on the team I selected, and Chelsea’s impeccable form and execution would be a great plus for the USA.

Not to mention she trains at my gym, so I might just be a LITTLE bit biased! But seriously….I love the girl, she is a lovely gymnast to watch!
