As I promised last week, here is Ana Porgras’ excellent beam routine from the 2010 European Championships team finals. She is so lovely to watch, crisp and clean as the announcers say. Sadly she seemed to be badly hurt after the routine and the commentators speculated as to whether or not she was hurt before the routine, since she didn’t compete floor. At any rate, it is a marvelous routine and I hope you all enjoy it!

Here is Amelia Racea from Romania at the recent European Championships, where she won the Balance Beam title. This is the Romanian beamwork I’ve come to expect from them - steady and quick. I could use some more choreography, but I can appreciate her rock-solidness, aside from the slight wobble on the front tuck! I especially love the aerial-back tuck combination and her lovely full turn. I’d much rather see a full turn with the leg down executed well than a full turn with leg at horizontal and a huge wobble. Shame about the big step back on the landing, but overall a very nice routine, scoring a 14.40 out of a 6.2 D Score.

I’ll probably be putting up a lot of videos this week! I’m on a video kick :)

European Championships - Senior Men

The Senior portion of the European Championships was as eventful as the men’s, with the host country again having a strong showing thanks to its stars Dan Keatings and Louis Smith. Notably Russia was missing from the competition, but I’m sure it was entertaining nonetheless.

Amazing that six different people from six different countries won the event finals! It really shows the diversity that is coming into gymnastics, it’s not just the same few countries over and over again. Congrats especially to Tomi Tuuha from Finland and Vlasios Maras from Greece setting a wonderful standard for their countries.
