PODIUM TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS THOUGHTS
——————————————-
BARS

Raisman: can you point your toes please? Easy looking straddled jaeger and big tkatchev. Blind change to double front dismount looks effortless for someone whose top event is not bars.

Larson: Kips look a bit forced but her pointed toes and lovely lines make everything better. Love the effortless Shaposhnikova. Small hop on double layout.

BEAM

Caquatto: Looks much more confident than at Classic and VISAs. Nice front aerial to BHS Layout stepout, not even the slightest of wobbles.

Raisman: BHS Layout is powerful but again, form needs to be cleaned up. Back leg VERY low on switch side/half. (I saw someone else mention this recently….this is toeing the line for not getting credit IMO) Nice front tuck-BHS-layout stepout but again, the flexed feet is driving me crazy! BHS stepout-BHS-Layout timer for dismount was actually very pretty….um, Aly, where were those pointed toes during the rest of the routine? Please bring them for Qualifications! :)

Bross: BHS-Layout stepout solid as usual. Small wobble on arabian but saved nicely.

Larson: Love the press mount! Pretty wolf jump and split jump. Is that all we get to see? :(

FLOOR

Caquatto: triple twist with small hop, piked full in with very low chest on landing

Larson: Big double layout with slight spot. EDIT: Found a video of her fx run through! Double layout again with spot, absolutely beautiful STUCK triple full, 2 1/2 to punch front, toed the line, nice triple turn, double pike landed on knees :( very pretty routine though!

Raisman: 1 1/2 through to back tuck timer.

Bross: dance…why do they show this?

Sloan: very big double pike.

Davis: very pretty double tuck, tiny hop.

VAULT

Sacramone: handspring front timer

Davis: Yurchenko full with steps back, i think it was a warm-up vault.

Bross: Yurchenko double, little untidy legs but overall decent.

Sorry, I only get to see the video that USAG uploaded so it’s just their “highlights” but I thought a little commentary would be better than nothing! This does absolutely nothing to help me decide who is going to be the alternate. PLEASE not Chelsea Davis, gymnastics gods!

USA Worlds Team Announced!
Alicia Sacramone
Aly Raisman
Rebecca Bross
Bridget Sloan
Chelsea Davis
Mattie Larson
Mackenzie Caquatto
No word yet on which of these is the alternate. I’d heard Bridget and Becca both had minor injuries that they were working through but clearly they aren’t bad enough to keep them off the team. Sami Shapiro, who was previously listed as the alternate, injured her foot at camp. Kytra Hunter was also on the nominative roster, but is nowhere to be seen on this list….it seems Martha is going with a more artistic roster! Sooooo pleased for Chelsea Davis! Fingers crossed she isn’t in the dreaded seventh spot (ie: alternate).

Rebecca Bross, Graceful?

She sure is in this picture! I used to think she wasn’t so graceful or elegant, but she’s really improved her flexibility and her leaps lately, yay! And this lovely leap is on beam, too!

Post-VISA Championships Thoughts

Are going to be here very soon. I’d like to watch the meet again to process everything that happened, my favorite parts and such.

I will go ahead and say that I was totally shocked to hear about Wieber’s crash and burn in the Juniors division. She has been totally dominant every time I see her compete, but she seems to get these horribly timed, drawn-out injuries, so I hope she gives her ankles the time off that they need. This is kind of a tangent, but about five years ago I used to play on a co-ed soccer team, and once I rolled my ankle pretty badly. I gave it a few weeks off and it was mostly better but it continued to nag me off and on until I quit. It wasn’t until about 8 months after that that I finally realized, “hey, my ankle doesn’t hurt anymore! So THIS is how my ankles are supposed to feel!” It is crazy how long your feet and ankles take to heal up properly, but you have to do it, otherwise you’ll just keep getting these little knocks that eventually turn into big things. Anyways, her BB routine is up on Gymnastike and boy is it scary. Her ankles are wobbling the whole time, I felt awful for her, that must have been a terrible mental exercise for her during that routine!

Glad to see Kyla Ross defend her title well though, and I was also happy to see dear old Brossy get her first National title. Even if Sloan had been competing AA, I still think Bross would have taken it. The girl is solid, what a competitor! She has the mental strength to take her all the way, for sure, she knows how to make corrections mid-move without giving away too much in deductions, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE how she fights for every tenth on her landings! Love it!!

So like I said….more thoughts coming soon. Plus pictures! And maybe some routine clips? :)
